If you like your game being dark and horrible, A Plague Tale: Innocence is the right game for you. It is almost like the worst nightmare coming true.
A Plague Tale: Innocence is set in the time of Hundred Years’ War during the Middle Ages. The main protagonists are two siblings, Amicia and Hugo de Rune.
They are decedents of noble French family which is the reason why knights of Inquisition want them dead. Death from Inquisition is one way of life ending. Another two are dying from the plague or eaten by rats. Sounds charming, doesn’t it?
If you ask me, the rats are the worst part. I surely would not like to be eaten alive by rats, even if it is just a game. These bloody and macabre scenes are not the most pleasant one.
Amicia and Hugo
Like the previously stated is not enough for Amicia, she also has to look after her little brother Hugo. He is five years old and his big sister (although she is just a teenager) is the one who he depends on.
The relationship between two young siblings is a strong one. Amicia is there to protect Hugo and take care of him and Hugo is there to give her all of his love. There are beautiful and heart-warming scenes where we can see how deep their love is.
For example, when Hugo picks a flower and places it in Amicia’s hair. You must love Hugo in moments like that.
There Is Hope After All
That being sad, we must conclude that the Plague Tale: Innocence is more than just a terrifying and dark game with gruesome scenes. This game is above all that the story about love, trust and caring.
Most important, this is the game about hope. Even in the worst world a hardest obstacles, love and fight for survival can get you through all. That is an important lesson for all of us.
