Freedom of speaking (and playing) what you want is not unlimited. There is a thing called censorship when it comes to books, films, music, and video games.
Different countries have different values for determining whether a game is appropriate. Here is a list of most interesting games that got banned in the US or other countries. Let’s start.
RapeLay
Creators of this game probably had some good agenda, but it definitely hadn’t turned out well.
As a player in this game, you get to be a sexual predator that stalks and rapes mother and her two daughters. I can sense why RapeLay got banned in some countries.
Postal 2
This one is also on the list of pretty unique ones. It got banned in New Zealand because, as it is explained, these things are game’s characteristics “Gross, abhorrent content: Urination, High Impact Violence, Animal Cruelty, Homophobia, Racial, and Ethnic Stereotypes”.
We’ll agree that postal couldn’t be labeled as a traditional harmless video game.
Custer’s Revenge
This one is from the 1980s. Although
feminist fighters for women rights have tried to get Custer’s Revenge banned in
the whole US, only one city actually banned it – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Player’s role is horny General
Custer with a pixelated boner (imagine how creepy that looks) whose goal is to
have sex with a Native American woman tied to a pole.
There was some talk that this
game was inspiration for a number of gang rapes of Native American women but
that was never confirmed.
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto got banned in Thailand due to an unfortunate incident. In 2006 a taxi driver was killed actually slaughtered by a passenger. Killer’s explanation of this horror was that “killing seemed easy in the game” (Grand Theft Auto).
As a result of that, the game got banned in Thailand. Take a look at this amazing and super exciting game here:
Carmageddon
What got Carmageddon banned is the fact that, unlike Doom or Mortal Kombat, it wasn’t so much fantasy like.
Hitting pedestrians with a car, as a Carmageddon’s gameplay, was considered to be bad influence for players. That’s why Brazil, Germany and United Kingdom banned it.
The Guy Game
The gameplay of The Guy Game was some trivia competition, and for every correct answer a player is reworded with a footage of a girl taking her shirt off.
What went wrong was that one of the girls was only seventeen years old. That unfortunate event brought The Guy Game’s in violation of child pornography statutes.
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Too much torture and bloody fighting scenes got the game banned in Australia. The most problematic scene was the one in which the main character is having a drill forced into his eye socket. If you want to see what the game looks like, watch the video below!
Manhunt series
Manhunt’s destiny was similar to
Carmageddon’s. More than seven countries banned it because killing with
household objects was too real.
Thrill Kill
The curiosity about this game is
that Thrill Kill never actually came out. Too much sexual and brutal content (including
serial killers, cannibals, and a suicidal dominatrix fighting each other) made
it a big mishit.
Baby Shaker
Apple pulled the game after many critiques that Baby Shaker makes fun of child abuse and/or infanticide. This game is made for smart phones – screen shows a picture of a crying baby.
You need to shake the device until the crying stops and two red Xs appear over its eyes as a sign that baby is dead.
Once you are done with reading about banned video games, you can see what are the worst games in 2018! Have fun!
