Observation is a true masterpiece. If you are a fan of sci-fi games, you’ll love this game. It’s better to say that you’ll adore this game. Its interesting story and beautiful and unique aesthetic will make you fall in love with it.
SAM (Systems Administration and Maintenance) and Emma Fisher
The game is set in the near future. The year is 2026. Your character is SAM (Systems Administration and Maintenance). As you can guess, SAM is the AI assistant. SAM is not just any assistant; it is the assistant of a space station. To make things more interesting, the space station is a product of collaboration between Europe, Russia and China. SO, yeah, it’s international. As SAM, you have access to cameras all over the ship and you are controlling them, while you are interacting with all computers as well.
At the very beginning, the game is introducing us to European crew member Emma Fisher. She finds out that she has no contact with the rest of the crew on the board. As you can imagine, something terrible has happened and that’s where the game begins. That is all that needs to be said without risking spoiling anything for you.
The Gameplay and Storytelling
The gameplay itself is not complicated. As you have access to all computers on the ship, your task is to analyze it thoroughly and with due diligence. That means going through every document you find.
What is most fascinating about Observation is how focused its storytelling is. It is beautifully written. Not just beautifully, it is smart. The way its story is building up is truly magnificent. Aesthetic is definitely helping game’s final score to be high. Some kind of a vintage and retro vibe is constantly present in the game. It reminds of classic and legendary sci-fi movies. That’s certainly a plus for Observation. That retro spooky atmosphere is a cherry on the top the cake called Observation.
